Jacob’s Newborn Session in Lansing’s Tecumseh Park

It's always super fun for me when I get to do both a maternity and a newborn session for people. It's great to get to see the happiness, anticipation, and love before the birth, and then the result of all that, in this case a beautiful baby boy. My past experiences with newborn sessions have been touch and go. They get upset, cry, don't want me handling them, and urinate all over everyone and everything during nude setups. JacobIn this instance, Jacob was an absolute angel. He let me handle him without any fussing, posed like a pro, and didn't urinate on anybody! The only time he fussed even a little bit was when I tried to make images of him with his parents. Talk about a superstar, he certainly didn't want his parents stealing his thunder! I was really pleased with the results of this session, and excited that it was warm enough outside to take the newborn baby out and lay him among the dandelions, and he seemed to be perfectly happy there. Congratulations to his fantastic parents, Brenna and Jeremiah, and welcome to the world Jacob!

Brenna: Maternity Session in Tecumseh Park

Six years ago this summer I was helping my then boyfriend, now husband with a play he was working on. He was directing a production of "The Scottish Play" (Don't know what I'm talking about? Google it and have a giggle at this notorious piece of theatre superstition.), and he had asked me to stage manage for him. We had very few people audition for the production, and as a result we were forced to recruit talent ourselves. We successfully recruited a handful of rambunctious teenagers from Sexton High School in Lansing, all of whom I continue to count among my friends today. One of these young people was a quiet young girl named Brenna. While a bit shy, Brenna was fun to be around and had a contagious personality. Thanks to her, my husband now knows how to drool "appropriately". Now Brenna the girl has become Brenna the woman, and is pregnant with her first born. Of course I jumped at the chance to photograph someone so lovely, especially since she is a friend. This past Saturday, less than a month from her due date, I met Brenna, her fun pit bull mix Izzo, and her boyfriend Jeremiah at Tecumseh Park in Lansing for a maternity session. The weather was a bit chillier than I normally prefer for an outdoor session, but Brenna was a good sport, and we even got some fun images with Izzo (when he wasn't trying desperately to get the squirrels!). When Jeremiah arrived partway through the session, he really brought out the best in Brenna. They were so good together as a couple that I almost felt as though I were intruding on private moments when photographing them!
